[edit] Description
Naming aside, the Art Nouveau Tarot isn't actually indicative of Art Nouveau. Its images have little of the stylization or ornament indicative of the fin-de-siecle decorative movement. The saturated jewel-tones of Myers' stunning, slick images have the glow of stained glass, but harken back as far as the seductive sheen of 1980s commercial art: sizzling oranges, purples, and turquoises predominate... every character is emphatically beautiful, young, and mesomorphic. Attractive yes; Nouveau, no. Most of the Trumps features an iconic central figure looking directly at the viwer. Each suit of the Minor Arcana tells the story of a couple, which pushes meanings away from the familiar Golden Dawn system and has led many to suggest this deck for romantic divination.
Myers dedicated the Art Nouveau Tarot to science fiction writer Ursula Le Guin who "showed him his beginning place."
