[edit] Description

The Glastonbury Tarot is a Waite-Smith clone created by Glastonbury resident Lisa Tenzin-Dolma, using other Glastonbury inhabitants to pose for the images in places around the town. As such, every card depicts a place in Glastonbury, some more famous than others (Chalice Hill, Glastonbury Tor, etc.) The deck's aim is to express the history, legends, and mythology surrounding this Somerset town - which is no mean feat considering Glastonbury is a curious amalgam of neo-Paganism, monastic Christianity, and Arthurian legend.

The traditional card titles are retained in the Major Arcana (with Strength as XI and Justice as VIII, contra. to Rider Waite tradition), and each card image depicts a figure, historical moment, or legend of Glastonbury. For instance, Temperance is the Saint and Goddess Brigit, the Hierophant is Joseph of Arimathea, and the Chariot is the Barge of Avalon. In the Minor Arcana, Wands become Staffs and Pentacles Vesicas, and whilst the Aces depict legendary artifacts (such as Excalibur for the Ace of Swords, the Minor Arcana do not relate to a myth or character. Instead they show people interacting with Glastonbury itself, and each card bears a keyword such as "Recuperation" or "Happiness"

The deck comes packaged with a small companion book (167 pages) that provides the reader with useful spreads, information about Glastonbury, and explanations of the cards themselves - imagery, interpretation, and mythology/history behind them.
