This deck is based upon the Kalevala, a 19th century book by Elias Lönnrot that regroups epic poems from the Finnish oral tradition. The key element is not warriors' valor but a celebration of magic. It is a 78-card deck, and though the trump symbolism differs from traditional designs the meanings are analogous. The name of the card and Kalevala character represented is printed on each. The suits have been renamed to Stakes (Batons), Dishes (Cups), Swords (not changed), Loaves (Coins) .
