[edit] Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
Tarotists sometimes assign correspondences between the 16 court cards and the 16 types under the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality profile test. See Wikipedia article on Myers-Briggs Type Indicator for a discussion of the MBTI and the 16 MBTI types.
It should be noted that there is no one single universal system of correspondences between the 16 court cards and the 16 MBTI types. There have been at least three different systems of court-to-type correspondences identified by tarotists.
For example, one might assign the MBTI personality type ENFJ to the King of Cups. Do NOT jump to the conclusion that this need necessarily equate to a man; such personality types have nothing to do with gender.
E = extroverted, i.e. would prefer to find him/herself involved in relationships with others, one way or the other, rather than not.
N = intuitive; can 'see around corners', though not necessarily what lies directly under the nose.
F = feeling; very emotional, i.e. 'emotions', or Cups, his/her 'strong suit'; do not expect much of a logical analysis or rationale from this person, just what 'feels right'!
J = judging: in Myers-Briggs terminology, not necessarily 'judgmental' or 'critical', but, like the Queen, prefers closure, neat resolutions, tying up loose ends in relationships, rather than leaving options open (in contrast to Perceiving types, Knights and Pages).
