[edit] Creator's comments
The LuminaDivinae ArTarot follows the Marseille Tarot structure, but with scenically illustrated pips. The 78 cards feature selections of artwork from the great European masters of Renaissance, which are not collaged. LuminaDivinae is an Art & Tarot deck with a double face function of divination and historical study. Being a true art inspired work, the 78 primal images of the cards were not changed by collage techniques in order to celebrate the symbolic value of each painting. The main purpose of the deck is the celebration of Renaissance Art & Tarot in their true essential and close nature.
Image reading and card games were a common social practice inside Italian Courts during the XVth to the early XVIIth Centuries, even before Tarot was used as a personal divinatory tool. In order to respect this historical legacy, the original artwork of LuminaDivinae ArTarot deck was digitally restored and reframed by author Mafalda Serrano to compose an independent set of reciprocal visual signs, according to Tarot symbolism and art history. Some cards picture the whole Renaissance restored artwork while others will cover a special outline of a significant detail. Cards are coloured and numbered according to the Tarot de Marseille's tradition. Renaissance times in Europe were deeply enriched by Eastern, Greek and Roman spiritual heritages; what means that sacred and profane elements are pictured in a surprising close proximity. Along the entire deck, Christian elements establish a symbolic dialogue with the pagan myths and daily characters of ancient Europe.
The LuminaDivinae ArTarot deck refers to the puzzling cultural atmosphere that gave birth to Modern Age in Europe and may still inspire us in times of post-modern challenges and global changes. Renaissance masters were profoundly skilled in the artistic fields of Religious art and portrait for their aim embraced the spiritual realm and the earthy levels of human existence.
Lumina is an old Latin expression for inspiration, sharing of the Light. Divinae refers to what is divine, the wisdom of the Sacred Feminine but also to everything that's mythic and natural. LuminaDivinae is a composed word inspired by early Latin language created by author Mafalda Serrano to praise Tarot cards as the Lights of the Goddess true memories of archaetypal Light enduring in Time.

[edit] Reviews
Mafalda Serrano revised her LuminaDivinae ArTarot for self-publishing in April, 2009 under the new designation of Light of the Goddess Art & Tarot Set. This new *Deluxe Version* uses traditional printing techniques, high quality paper and transparent ink to respect the gorgeous colours of Renaissance art, culture and inspiration. The Deck has Seventy-Eight illustrated Cards, with two additional ones for general presentation and personal dedication. The first limited edition of the Set is sold with an Art & Tarot Book, featuring five chapters about Renaissance Art and Culture and the influence of ancient Greece and Rome into the Western World; the history of playing Cards and divining in the Mediterranean basin and Portugal during the XVth-XVI Centuries; unique spreads, divinatory meanings and explanations for the Cards; insights about comparative mythology, image reading and meditation.
A transparent Tarot bag and a velvet cloth for spreads were added to the final printed version of a historical deck that bridges divinatory purposes with educational aims with no collage techniques applied to the images.
The structure of this Deck is designed to celebrate and reflect the modern ambiance of European Renaissance and the Baroque period. Specific designations and Roman numbers, inspired by ancient Italian decks and the traditional Tarot de Marseille, are used for Majors:
Card I - The Magician, Card II - The Popess, Card III - The Empress, Card IV - The Emperor, Card V - The Pope, Card VI - Love, Card VII - The Triumphal Car, Card VIII - Justice, Card IX - The Old Man, Card X - The Wheel, Card XI - Strength, Card XII - The Hanged Man, Card XIII - Death, Card XIIII - Temperance, Card XV - Devil, Card XVI - The Tower, Card XVII - The Star, Card XVIII - The Moon, Card XIX - The Sun, Card XX - The Angel, Card XXI - The World, Card XXII - The Fool.
The four Suits are structured to fit the concept of four complimentary Reigns, or dominant houses following the historical inspiration of most Renaissance empowered families that commissioned some of the first decks. The Sixteen Court Cards are designed to bridge the spiritual inspiration provided by Renaissance Christian Art with the mythical guidance of anonymous individuals. Light of the Goddess Art & Tarot Set does not establish any strict correlation with the traditional symbolism of the four elements because philosophical approaches may vary during this period. The innate visual nature of the images will suggest some immediate associations to Tarot readers:
House of Batons, House of Swords, House of Cups, House of Coins.
The four Suits are inhabited by four groups of Court Cards:
Kings, Queens, Princes, (for traditional Knights) Princesses (for traditional Pages)
The meanings for Courts and the Numbered Cards are founded in Pythagorean numerology and also establish a close link to the symbology of Majors. This is an inspirational and educational medium size deck (80x120mm) designed for the history of art and historical Tarot lovers.
