Paul Marteau (1885-1966) became head of the Grimaud card factory (founded by Baptiste Paul Grimaud) in 1920 and published the successful Ancien Tarot de Marseille in 1930.
He gave his collection to the Bibliothèque nationale in Paris.

Not only is this one of the most influential books on the subject, it has undoubtedly provided a basis for later authors who base interpretations on the meticulousness of detail on especially colouration and floral arrangement.
