[edit] Biography
(Extracted from Playing with Symbols):
Monicka Clio Sakki is an artist, designer, writer, traveler and, on special occasions, a karaoke singer. Born and raised in Athens, Greece, she currently divides her time between New York and Tel-Aviv, Israel. Throughout her life she has been using art as a tool to relate to different cultures and lifestyles. In her practice of art, she fuses inspiration and creativity with down-to-earth realism and professional discipline. Monicka holds a Master’s degree in Liberal Arts from State University of New York, and developed her Tarot deck as part of her thesis. Monicka rides a black bicycle with hand-painted white spots, and is known for her famous Spinach Pie à la Greek.
Monicka is an international design consultant and college instructor, a published illustrator of children’s books, and a contributor of illustrations to newspapers in Israel. Before starting her Sakki-Sakki ventures, Monicka worked at Golden Books/Random House in New York City, where she designed products for Warner Bros’ Scooby-Doo, Mattel’s Barbie and various properties belonging to Disney and Nickelodeon. Monicka started her own studio and publishing enterprise, MPress, to deliver Sakki-Sakki-branded materials and children’s literature; and through these endeavors, she is slowly crafting her vision.
Since the age of twelve, Monicka has been studying astrology and checking the daily movement of the planets in order to figure out the world. Fascinated by the structure, complexity and mystery of systems, she soon discovered the Tarot, which combines multiple systems of occult thought with possibilities for play. Creating the Sakki-Sakki Tarot has been Monicka’s favorite project, because its rich brew of symbolism nourishes the idea that anything is possible.
