[edit] Sonnett at the beginning

(general note: A sonnett has always 14 lines, structured in 4-4-3-3; usually the rhyme is formed by the scheme a-b-b-a, a-b-b-a, c-d-c, d-c-d)

Notes:

The first 4 lines tell, that the 40 number cards describe the passions of the soul.

The next 4 lines introduce the 4 figures of each suit (so 4x4=16), the 21 trumps and the Fool card, whereby in the specific idea of Boiardo the term Fool (first card of the usual Tarot) is contrasted with the term "world" (last card of the usual Tarot).

The first tercet names the 4 suits (Fear, Jealousy, Hope and Love) and notes, that each card will have a tercet, which will give some orientation to the player.

The last tercet describes a special poetical trick of Boiardo, which is used for all tercets of the number cards. The first word is always the title of the suit (Timor, Gelosia, Speranza, Amor), the second word starts always with the letter of the corresponding Italian number ("uno, due, tre, fin al grado maggiore", that is with "u...", "d ...", "t...", etc.).
