[edit] Description

Tarocco Milanese del Periodo Napoleonico (Neoclassic Tarot, Milan) is a gorgeous 78 Card deck colored by hand, that was originally published by Gumppenberg in 1810. It was reprinted with great care by Il Meneghello in a limited numbered edition of 2000 copies. Dimensions: 1.18 x 2.36 inches, 3 x 6 cm. The technique used for making this particular deck, according to Osvaldo Menegazzi, was to engrave the images on metal. The cards were all hand colored.

Osvaldo shares that Ferdinando Gumppenberg was one of the greatest innovators and inventors; ingenious in the field of playing card production during the 19th century. When he arrived in Milan in 1809 from Munich, he brought German technology along with a trunk full of experience to share with Italy. He had studied with J. Fetscher and also brought with him the news, taste, fashion and trends that were of contemporary Germany and Austria during the 2nd half of the 1700's.
