[edit] Description
Tarot: History, Mystery and Lore is several books in one: a substantive history of the Tarot, an examination of the connections that have been drawn between Tarot and various esoteric disciplines (Qabalah, Astrology, Alchemy, etc), and a collection of theories, exercises and information about the Tarot that point towards further research. Major figures in the history of Tarot are explained contextually, and her section on the occult disciplines linked to Tarot provide terrific cursory overviews. While not a guide to reading the cards, this book is one of the best (and best researched) introductions to the study of the cards. The bibliography is especially useful for Tarot students, since it contains synopses and reviews of many Tarot texts.
