I am a 50+ year old counsellor living in Surrey, UK.

I first became interested in Tarot 5 or 6 years ago. At the time, I was very intested in paganism having met a thriving online pagan community through a bulletin board. My interest was initially piqued by the mystery of Tarot and I wanted to be able to read Tarot cards. After much discussion on Aeclectic Tarot Forum, I bought some Hanson-Roberts tarot cards and learnt to read the cards using mostly the Joan Bunning method, with lots of help from friends!

Even at the time I had a purely materialistic/scientific viewpoint and I have become more settled into this way of thinking. I still value paganism for the way it embraces all forms of spirituality and none. And I still have an active interest in spirituality, although I am aware that my understanding of what is going on in spirituality is probably not the same as that of many of the other people with whom I interact. I tend to see all spiritual occurrences as being based firmly in human psychology. They are no less important or interesting to me for that.

The effect on my practice of Tarot is that I do not read for other people. I read for myself but see it as a form of meditation or brainstorming. Each reading is a "what if?" scenario. "What if" my situation were to be defined by the Queen of Pentacles crossed with the Queen of Cups? What would that mean?

I am still looking for a way to integrate the use of Tarot cards into my counselling practice without scaring off my clients! I have a website called Creative Counselling where you can see the kind of work I do.

I also enjoy Tarot cards for their art, and as an expression of archetypes. I spend too much time on the internet looking at Tarot cards and I think I am still looking for "the one" that will express the very heart of Tarot for me.
